Easy Potato Murukku
- Rice Flour - 2 cups
- Boiled Potato - 1 Medium sized
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - As needed
- Butter - 1/4 cup
- Water - As needed
- Oil - For deep frying
- Murukku Maker - 1
Method:
Step 1:
- Take a blender, Add boiled potato, Butter, little water, Grind it as a smooth paste. transfer it to a mixing bowl.
- In the same bowl, Add rice flour, cumin seeds, salt, Asafoetida, required water and knead as soft and smooth dough.
Step 2:
- Grease 2 or 3 ladles or small plate with oil for placing the squeezed out murukku.
- Drop enough dough in a murukku maker with star nozzle or three holes nozzle and squeeze out the dough in a greased plate or ladle.
- Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan or kadai, (To check if the oil is hot, drop a piece of dough into the hot oil, if it raises to the surface immediately, the oil is hot enough to fry the murukkus).
- If the oil is too hot, keep the flame in medium, slide the murukku from the ladle into the hot oil gently.
- let it cook for a few seconds, then flip it over to the other side.
- When the murukku is cooked, you will not sees the bubbles in the oil.
- Drain the murukkus in kitchen towels.
Notes
- The dough has to be in a correct consistency,should not be sticky.
- If the murukkus while you press gets broken,that means your dough needs more water,sprinkle more water and mix again.
- You can replace Cumin with sesame seeds or ajwain (Omam)
