Karaikudi Special Nattu Kozhi Masala/ Country Chicken Curry
Ingredients
- Country Chicken/ Nattu Kozhi - 1 Kg
- Indian Sesame Oil/ Gingelly oil - 1/2 cup
- Small Onion - 1/4 Cup (Chopped)
- Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 & 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder - 1 & 1/2 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Bay Leaf - 1
- Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
- Cinnamon - 1 Small stick
- Cloves - 2
- Curry Leaves - 1 spring
- Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Salt - As needed
To Grind:
- Tomatoes - 2
- Small Onion - 10
- Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
- Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
Method:
Step 1:
- Take a blender, Add tomatoes, Small onion grind it smoothly, Keep aside.
- Grind Grated coconut, Fennel seeds, Add little water, Grind as a smooth paste, Keep aside.
- Cut country chicken into slightly big pieces. Wash them thoroughly. Add turmeric powder in it. Marinate for 10 mins.
Step 2:
- Heat Pressure cooker with oil, Add bay leaf, fennel seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick, curry leaves one by one, allow it to splutter.
- Add chopped small onions in it, fry until it turns golden. Add ginger garlic paste, Stir until the raw smell goes up.
- Add Grinded onion and tomatoes in it, Mix well, Keep the flame in low for 5 mins.
- Add red chili powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, Mix well until the oil floats on top.
- Now add marinated chicken, some water, salt in it. Mix well. bring it to boil.
- Close the pressure cooker allow to 3-4 whistles. once the pressure releases, open it.
- Add grinded coconut paste in it, mix well, Allow it to boil for 5 to 10 mins in medium flame.
- Switch off the stove when you reach desired consistency. Serve with hot rice / idly / dosai.
Notes
- Do not burn the masala otherwise gravy will taste bitter.
- Pressure cook marinated chicken in enough water (approximately 3 to 4 cups) until soft. Because country chicken takes longer time to cook than our regular broiler chicken.
- Always wash chicken twice or thrice, in order to avoid the stinky smell from chicken.
