Urad Dal Puttu/ Ulunthu Puttu & Health Benefits for Girls

Urad Dal Puttu is a simple dish but it has extraordinary benefits especially for girls. It has iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium which makes it a healthy pulse. It is good for women’s health as it is a necessary dish for them in people of all ages, from baby to granny. As it is rich in iron and calcium so it is given to girl who attained puberty. And also it is given to new mom’s to overcome her pregnancy difficulties like back pain as it is good for our bone. It also boosts milk supply in lactating women. On the whole it is a good energy giving food and it is had as breakfast to give energy the whole day.

Ingredients
  • Whole Urad Dal - 1 Cup (Skin Removed)
  • Raw Rice - 1/4 Cup
  • Grated Coconut - 1/2 Cup
  • Sesame Oil - As needed
  • Salt - As needed
  • Sugar/Jaggery - 1/4 Cup

Method:
Step 1:
  • Soak Urad Dal, Raw Rice, altogether for 1 hr.
  • Drain Water completely, Add all the items, salt  in a grinder or blender, Grind it, by sprinkling little water.
  • Grind it little coarsely. But batter should be like Vada Batter Consistency.
Step 2:
  • Grease the idly moulds.
  • Put the batter in the moulds,(like Idly shaped) and steam it in a steamer.
  • Steam for 10-12 mins, until the idly cooks. 
  • Transfer it to a bowl, Allow it to cool. Afterwards, Crumble the idly coarsely with your fingers.
  • Now add Sesame Oil, Grated coconut, Sugar, Mix well. 
  • Urad Dal Puttu is ready.
Notes
  • Ensure the batter is in correct consistency. The batter should be little light, not watery or too heavy thick paste.
  • It should be consumed immediately.
