Raw Mango Rice / Mangai Sadam

Raw mango rice is a very simple and tasty rice which is suitable for lunch boxes. This is a different dish. We usually do lemon rice, Puliyogare like that. The flavour of this raw mango rice is little bit same as lemon rice. The tanginess here comes from Mango instead of lemon.

Ingredients
  • Cooked Rice - 3 cup
  • Grated  Raw Mango - 1 Cup
  • Red chili - 5
  • Curry leaves - 1 Spring
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt - As needed
  • Oil - As needed
  • Peanuts - 1/4 Cup
  • Channa Dal - 2 tsp
  • Hing - A pinch
Method:
Step 1:
  • Cook rice as you do regularly, But do not make mushy, Spread it in a plate allow it to cool.
  • Wash, peel and grate raw mangoes.
  • Heat oil in a pan, Add Mustard seeds, curry leaves one by one, Allow it to splutter.
  • Add Channa Dal, Hing, Red chilies, peanuts, Turmeric powder, Fry gently in a low flame. Don't burn the peanuts.
  • Add grated mangoes, Salt , mix well , Cook for 2- 3 mins, Switch off the flame.
Step 2:
  • Add cooked rice and mix gently using a fork taking care not to break the rice. Check for salt, add if required.
  • Serve hot with Papads...
Notes
  • You can add green chilies instead of red chilies.
  • You can also add cashews along with peanuts.
  • The cooked rice should not be mushy.
