Village Style Karuvadu Kuzhambu / Dried Fish Curry

- Nethili Dried Fish / Nethili Karuvadu - 100 gms
- Chopped Small onion - 1 Cup
- Tomato - 1 (chopped)
- Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - 1 spring
- Garlic cloves - 5 (sliced)
- Green chili - 2 (Slit)
- Tamarind - 1 Small lemon size
- Red chili powder - 2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Gingelly oil/ Sesame Oil - 1/2 Cup
- Salt - As needed
Method:
Step 1:
- Soak the dried fish in water for 10 mins, After that Wash and clean it, Drain water, Keep aside.
- Take tamarind in a bowl, add water and soak for 10 mins. Make tamarind extract, Keep aside
- Heat gingelly oil in a kadai, Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, Allow it to splutter.
- Add chopped onion, Fry until the raw smell goes up, Add Garlic, Green chili, Mix well.
- Add chopped tomato, Mash well.
Step 2:
- Add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, Mix well.
- Add tamarind extract in it, salt, Mix well. Bring it to boil for 10 mins.
- Now add fish and cook till fish is cooked.
- Switch off the flame, let it stand for 1 hour for the flavour to develop.
- Serve hot with Rice.
Notes
- Karuvadu Kuzhambu is normally prepared a bit watery.
- If you want you can add vegetables like Brinjal, Bottle Guard etc..
- If you want to add Coconut milk in it, Increase the chili powder in it.
- Dried fish will cook very fast. Don't over cook it, otherwise it will melts.
