Raw Mango Pachadi (Mangai Pachadi), is one of the traditional recipe we used to prepare for Tamil New Year’s day or for any auspicious occasion during mango season. The Mango has amazing health benefits like high levels of fiber, pectin and vitamin C help to lower serum cholesterol levels, specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein. It can be used both internally and externally for the skin. Mangoes help clear clogged pores and eliminate pimples.
Ingredients
- Raw mango – 1 medium sized (2 cups chopped)
- Jaggery – 1/2 cup (grated)
- Salt – As needed
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Red Chilies – 2
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Hing(perungayam) – A pinch
- Oil – 2 tsp
Method:
Step 1:
- Peel and Cut the mango into medium sizes
- Take chopped mango, turmeric powder in pan along with water till immersing level.Let it cook for few mins until mangoes become soft.
- Meanwhile Heat a pan, Melt jaggery in 1/4 cup of water and filter it to remove any impurities.
- Add the jaggery syrup, pinch of salt in the boiled mango and boil on medium flame until it becomes slightly thick and gets blended well with the jaggery.
Step 2:
- Heat a tsp of oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add curry leaves, red chilies, hing and pour it over the pachadi.
- Serve hot with sambar rice.
Notes
- You can also prepare mango pachadi by using mango shavings instead of chopped mangoes.
- Adjust jaggery syrup according to the sourness of raw mango.
- This keeps well for 3 days if refrigerated.
