Punjabi Dhaba Style Dal Tadka Recipe is found easily at any Dhaba. Very Tasty and Easy to make. Toor Dal consists of iron, folic acid, Magnesium, Calcium, Vitamin B, and  Potassium. Chana dal is high in fiber and helps to lower cholesterol. It also has a very low hypoglycemic index, which is important for those with diabetes. Chana dal is a helpful source of zincfolatecalcium and protein. It is low in fat. This rich pulses diet is low in carbohydrates and takes you a long way to lead a healthy life. This is the yummy way to go healthy every day.

Ingredients
  • Toor Dal - 1 cup
  • Chana Dal - 1 cup
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 3 tsp
  • Ginger - 1 tsp (Chopped)
  • Garlic - 1 tsp (Chopped)
  • Onion - 1 big (Chopped)
  • Green Chillies - 5 (Slit)
  • Tomatoes - 3 (Chopped)
  • Salt - As needed
  • Kashmiri Red Chili Powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  • Kasoori Methi / Dried Fenugreek Leaves - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp
Tempering
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Cumin  - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1 Pinch
  • Garlic - 1 Tsp
  • Red Chilies - 4
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring
Method:
Step 1:
  • Pressure cook the Toor Dal and Chana Dal together, Add turmeric powder, 2 & 1/2 cups water till completely cooked through and can be mashed easily between two fingers.
  • Heat Ghee in a pan, Add cumin seeds, allow it to splutter, add ginger, garlic one by one, fry until the raw smell goes up.
  • Add Chopped Onion and Green Chilies, Fry until it turns golden.
  • Add Tomatoes and Salt. Mix Well and Cover with Lid for 3- 4 mins.
  • Remove the lid, Mash well, Add Kashmiri Red Chili Powder, Kasoori Methi, Garam Masala and coriander powder. Mix Well
  • Add Dal and Water to the Masala. Mix Well. Cook for 3 mins.
Step 2:
  • Heat ghee in a shallow pan, Add cumin, Asafoetida, curry leaves allow it to splutter.
  • Add Garlic, Cook till Garlic starts turning golden and Add Red Chilies. Mix well.
  • Finally, Add it on top of Dal.
  • Serve hot with rice, Chapati, fulka,Naan.
Notes
  • You can use toor dal alone instead of using both dals.
  • You can use butter instead of using ghee. It gives different taste.
