Tamil Nadu Spicy Prawn Masala / Eral Thokku

Prawn Masala is very famous in Tamil Nadu, especially coastal areas. It is a very tasty dish. Actually prawn takes only few mins to cook. This is my aunt's best dish. She taught me to do this once. After that it turns my best dish. Try it and let me know how it turned out..

Ingredients
  • Prawns - 1 Cup
  • Chopped Small Onion - 1/2 Cup
  • Tomato - 1 Big ( Chopped)
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 Spring
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp
  • Salt - As needed
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
Method
Step 1:
  • Clean prawns(by removing the center nerve part), wash it, add turmeric powder in it for marination and mix well. Let it sit for 10 mins.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, Add Mustard seeds, Curry leaves, allow it to sizzle.
  • Add chopped onions, Fry until it turns golden, Add Ginger garlic paste, Fry until the raw smell goes up.
  • Add Tomatoes, Mash well,Add the marinated prawns and toss well in the oil. Let it cook for 5 to 7 mins till it is cooked, turns pink and curls.
Step 2:
  • Add Red chili powder, coriander powder, Garam masala in it, Mix well.
  • Prawn lets out water so check that and then add 1/2 cup of water, Add Salt and keep closed.
  • Cook for 5 to 10 mins. Serve Hot.
Notes
  • Clean prawns and wash it thoroughly before you cook.
  • This curry goes well with rotis or even rice.
  • You can also add coconut paste for more thick consistency. for using coconut paste - 1/4 Cup grated coconut.
  • White colour prawns is more tastier than Red colour prawns.
