Khara Pongal / Ven Pongal

- Raw Rice - 1 Cup
- Moong Dal - 1/2 Cup
- Cumin - 1 tsp
- Pepper - 1 tsp
- Garlic - 4 (chopped)
- Ginger - 1 tsp (Chopped)
- Water - 4.5 Cup (Adjust As Needed)
- Salt - As needed
- Ghee - 3 tsp
- Cumin - 1 & 1/2 tsp
- Pepper - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - As needed
- Cashew - 4
Step 1:
- Wash Raw rice, Moong dal altogether in a bowl.
- Take a Cooker, Add 4 cups of water,bring to boil.
- Add the raw rice, moong dal, cumin, pepper, ginger, garlic, salt. Pressure cook for 4 whistles in a medium flame.
- Wait until pressure gets released by itself,open & mash it.
- Heat Ghee in a kadai, Add the items given to temper, one by one. ( Add Cashews in the last). Mix Well
- Add it in the cooker and mix well.
Notes
- Instead of using Raw rice you can also use normal parboiled rice which used for meals.
- If the pongal is watery when you open, then you can try keeping it again in stove and mix well until water evaporates.(only if the rice has got cooked,otherwise you can again give 2 whistles).
- Dont overheat the Ghee, Make sure you dont burn cumin while frying, as it changes the whole taste of pongal.
- You can add turmeric 1/8 tsp for an ‘yellow looking” pongal.
