Ingredients
  • Idly Rice - 1 Cup
  • Fenugreek Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Sesame Oil - 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Salt - As needed
  • Urad Dal - 1 tsp
  • Grated Palm Jaggery - 1 Cup


Method:
Step 1:
  • Wash and soak the Idly rice, Fenugreek, Urad dal all together in a bowl for 3 hours 
  • Grind this in a mixie or grinder. Grinding this into a very smooth paste is advisable.
  • The batter will give good volume after grinding and will be fluffy too.
Step 2:
  • Add the batter to the pan and add 1 cup of water, salt. Bring the mixture to a watery consistency as like a rava dosa batter. 
  • Meanwhile heat a pan / Heavy bottomed vessel , Add  1/2 cup of water and bring to boil.
  • Add the batter slowly; KEEP STIRRING WHILE ADDING THE BATTER, Keep this in a low flame and continue stirring.
  • In another pan add the jaggery and add little water, melt the jaggery and filter it.
  • Keep cooking the ground rice mixture. Slowly add the filtered jaggery water.
  • Mix well and cook in a slow flame without getting lumps.
  • Add little by little sesame oil while stirring.
  • Cook till the mixture leaves the sides and comes to halwa consistency
  • Wet your hands and touch the mixture; If it is not sticky, then it’s a perfect consistency; If it sticks, then cook for some more minutes.
  • Serve hot.

Notes
  • You can also cook the rice mixture first and while serving, make a dent and put the grated jaggery in the center, Pour Sesame oil in top of it. Jaggery will get melted in the hot Kali. Start taking kali  from the outer circle and eat along with the melted jaggery soaked in a sesame oil.  It will taste Yummy.
  • Strongly recommend to make it as a breakfast at least once in a week during summer.
  • Ensure that the entire process is done in low flame else the mixture will form lumps.
  • Also the batter consistency is very very important. If it is not watery, we will not get the Halwa like Kali.
