Vazhaipoo/ Banana Flower Vadai

Ingredients:
  • Banana Flower/ Vazhaipoo Cleaned  - 1Cup 
  • Channa Dal - 3/4 Cup
  • Raw rice flour- 2 tsp
  • Red chili - 4
  • Cumin seeds - 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped Onion- 1/4 cup
  • Salt - As needed
  • Curry leaves, Coriander leaves - As needed
  • Oil - For deep fry

Method:
Step 1:
  • Soak Channa Dal for 3 hrs.
  • Take a mixer, add red chilies, cumin, soaked channa dal without adding water grind it coarsely, Keep it aside.
  • Take a pressure cooker add cleaned Vazhaipoo, Pressure cook for 1 whistle with water till immersing level. Drain water completely.Allow it to cool down.
  • Squeeze the water completely.Then transfer to mixer and grind it to a semi fine paste. 
  • Transfer to a mixing bowl and add the grind-ed things,  chopped onion, raw rice flour, salt,coriander,curry leaves Mix well.
Step 2:
  • Heat oil in kadai and make medium sized patties/vadai in your palm. Grease your hands with water.
  •  Put a small pinch of dough into the oil if it raises immediately then the oil temperature is just perfect
  • Drop the vadai in oil and cook in medium flame. You can fry 4-5 at a time. Fry both sides until golden and crisp or until the inside gets cooked well. 
Notes
  • You can also add Roasted Bengal Gram powder instead of raw rice flour. This is used for making the vadai more crisp.
  • Instead of pressure cooking the vazhaipoo you can steam it in a idly cooker.
  • Make sure u don’t add any water while grinding. the water in dal and vazhaipoo itself will be enough.
