Crab Gravy/ Nandu Masala


Ingredients:
  • Crab - 1 kg
  • oil - 3 tsp
  • Chopped small onion - 1 cup
  • Small onion for grind - 1/2 cup
  • Tomato -  2
  • Green Chilly - 2 
  • Pepper - 2 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped Ginger - 1
  • Garlic - 8 Cloves
  • Fennel Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Chopped Coconut -  1 cup
  • Red Chilly Powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves, Coriander leaves, Salt - as needed
Method:
Step 1:
  • Clean the crab and cut it into desired size.
  • Take a mixer, add small onion, green chilly, pepper, cumin, ginger, garlic, fennel seeds and grind it all together, Keep it aside.
  • Add coconut in the mixer and grind it separately. 
Step 2:
  • Heat oil in a deep pan (kadai) and allow mustard seeds ,curry leaves to sizzle.
  • Add chopped onion, fry till it turns golden.
  • Add tomato and cook till the tomatoes are mashed up
  • Add the grinded paste except coconut and cook until raw smell goes up.
  • Add red chilly powder, turmeric powder and mix well
  • Add salt, grinded coconut and mix well
  • Now add the crabs in the kadai and mix to coat the crabs with the masala paste.
  • Add some water depending on how much gravy you need. You can also make it a semi gravy dish.
  • Cover the kadai and let it cook for 5-7 minutes.  
  • Finally add chopped coriander leaves and switch off.
Notes
  • Don't add too much of water. Because crab has already water inside.
  • You can grind the tomato's instead of chopping.
