Garlic Rice/ Poondu Sadam & Health Benefits

Eating garlic regularly is good for us; it has been linked to reducing or even helping to prevent four of the major causes of death worldwideincluding heart disease, stroke, cancer and infections.Garlic has been widely recognized as both a preventative agent and treatment of many cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. It has bioactive sulfur compounds which are believed to have effects at each stage of cancer formation

Ingredients
  • Cooked Rice – 2 cups
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Garlic – 3 small finely chopped
To Roast & Grind:
  • Garlic – 10 small
  • Red Chilies – 3
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Channa Dal – 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Method:
Step 1:
  • Heat Oil (1 tsp) in a pan, Add Garlic, Red Chilly, Coriander seeds, Channa Dal, Urad Dal, Roast till it turns golden brown. Cool it and grind it to a coarse mixture Powder.Set aside
  • Heat oil in a Kadai, Add Mustard seeds, Curry leaves, allow it for seasoning.
  • Add Chopped Garlic, fry till garlic turns golden brown.
  • Add required salt with cooked rice and spread it to make it fluffy and separate.
  • Add the grinded mixture to the rice and mix well until it is coated evenly.
  • Serve hot
Notes
  • Roasting garlic till golden brown is a must else you will get raw garlic smell.
  • As there is no coconut, you can make this powder in prior and store it for 2-3 days and use it whenever you want to make this rice.
  • You can make this with leftover rice which will be perfect.
  • If your chilli is spicy, reduce accordingly.
