Moong Dal Payasam/ Paruppu Payasam

Ingredients:
  • Moong Dal/ Pasi Paruppu - 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery - 1/4 Cup (Adjust as per your taste)
  • Milk - 1/2 Cup
  • Water - As needed
  • Ghee - 1 &1/2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Cashew nuts - 6
  • Grated coconut -3 tsp 
  • Salt - 1/2 pinch


Method:
Step 1:
  • Heat 1/2 tsp ghee in a cooker, Add Moong dal in it, Roast it until colour turns little golden
  • Add Water ( 3/4 Cup approx) in it, Pressure cook for 3 whistles
  • Open the cooker and mash the dal nicely.
  • Take a pan, Dissolve jaggery in very less water and filter it to remove any impurities.
  • Add Dissolved jaggery in the cooked moong dal, Mix well
  • Now Add Milk in it allow it to boil, Mix well
Step 2:


  • Add a pinch of salt in the cooker for extra taste
  • Heat a tsp of ghee in a pan and fry cashew nuts. Transfer the cooked moong dal in the same pan.
  • Lastly Add grated coconut and Cardamom powder, Mix well for 3 to 4 mins.
  • Switch off the flame, serve hot
Notes
  • Ensure the milk you are going to use should be in room temperature.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the payasam by increasing or decreasing the quantity of milk.
  • Take care not to burn the moong dal while roasting.
